Who knew that while your third-grade classmates sat all snug in their Lacoste polos-with the collars turned up, natch-the strange girl in the back of the classroom who ripped up and restitched her jeans into Frankenstein-like patterns would grow up to save fashion.
This seems to be summing up Dust and Diamonds. Or at least what our goal is.
yay!
Dust & Diamonds is starting from scratch, in room 301 of NEFA at Hollins University. Our goal is to provide beautiful clothing and decor for an affordable price. As college students we have found a creative outlet that allows us to be fashionable, while being mindful of a budget. In our collection you will see inspirations from lines such as Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and Free People. We take the responsibility of putting together looks for less, while also helping the environment at the same time. At Dust & Diamonds you will find re(born), re(used), and re(newed) clothing and decor. Please come visit us in room 301 of NEFA and stay in touch to see new things to come. Re(born)Re(used)Re(newed)clothing & decor. (read less)

today’s city guide belongs to a city that’s close to my heart- durham, north carolina. having grown up with friends that attended college in the triangle area, durham will always remind me of road trips, good food and good people. today’s durham is home to a growing creative community, a renewed interest in historical preservation, and a laid-back (but still slightly gritty) attitude. durham is on my list of cities to try to convince ac to move to in a few years so i was thrilled to hear from photographer, blogger, and durhamite, jessie gladin-kramer. jessie has created an incredible guide to durham that includes wonderful places to eat, shop and check-out, as well as a wonderful series of photos to illustrate the tour. her guide makes me so homesick for the south i can’t stand it- so i’m off to look at real estate online again and imagine a life outside of the city. thank you again to jessie for this fantastic guide!

To all of you headed here for ADF! Even though we won't be "tourists" it will still be nice to have something to expand our focus outside of ADF.
Homegrown Harvest: Britta Riley and Rebecca Bray tend to Brooklyn's first window farm. This form of urban agriculture is catching on in cities around the world, as downtown farmers go online to share techniques for growing greens indoors.

This is a great alternative for people who don't have access to a space to grow fresh produce. Also a great option for college student who want to eat something fresh that doesn't come from preservative city (cafeteria).
Love, love, love these chalkboard cupboards. You'll never forget where you put that mixing bowl! The look might not be for everyone, but we think this is an easy, cheap and fun DIY to give your cupboards a creative update, rather than ripping them out or renovating.

I think I like it! Not sure if I did it it would turn out the same but its a great idea...any thoughts?
We are starting a new business! My roommate and I have turned our dorm room into a workroom. I would like to mention though, that this is not our first time as entrepreneurs. Our first business idea came into fruition last year with the help of a "silent backer" (at least that is what she liked to call herself). It was a Pizza business! We cooked the pizzas from fresh ingredients out of the kitchen in one of the dorms on campus and ended up doing quite well. Unfortunately we had to move on from that because we felt that ultimately pizza making wasn't our life's calling and we should probably invest our time in other things, or as the saying goes, "quit while you're ahead."
Sooo that brings me to our current venture. Dust and Diamonds- Reused, Renewed, and Reborn.
It's like a modern-vintage clothing and decor shop.
Basically, my roommate, Kat, makes clothes inspired from many different origins...thrift store hunting, piecemeal, and from "scratch" and I make home/office decor- cute fun things that have a purpose and brighten your life.
The idea is that we have a lot of craftiness in us and enjoy putting time into making beautiful things and we want to share that with people. If there is a look that you saw in a name brand store but it's a little too pricey for you, chances are we will have a similar look that fits your budget and is homemade. Same goes for the decor side of things. We want you to have access to all the fun things to decorate your home without going over your budget.
As students paying their way through college we think it's important for everyone to be fashionable for less. And who knows what else will end up in our store (which, by the way is based out of our dorm room and will be available online soon!)
Here are a few samples of what we have started with...works in progress!
Look forward to more coming soon!
In a year I will be in need of a job. I'm smart. Want to hire me?
